Symposium Rethinking the Dutch East India Company?
The National Archives, Leiden University and Leiden Asia Year invite you to the international symposium on the Dutch East India Company on 23 and 24 November.
In the past decades, research programmes have increasingly focussed on the negative sides of VOC history. Also, because of the digitisation of the VOC Archives, the accessibility of historical documents of several countries in Asia, Oceania and Southern Africa has increased. During this symposium, experts will analyse the current state of affairs and exchange their new insights. How can VOC research move forward by a non-western approach? And how will research on the Dutch East India Company develop in the future?
The National Archives of the Netherlands, the Faculty of Humanities of Leiden University and Leiden Asia Year invite you to join them at the symposium. You can attend a variety of lectures, discussions and a round table on various subjects relating to the Dutch East India Company seen from new perspectives. This year, to mark the digitisation of the archives, the National Archives are showcasing the Dutch East India Company. In February, the exhibition The world of the Dutch East India Company opened in the National Archives. During the symposium, you are welcome to visit their exhibition as well.
