Large Dutch delegation heads for SXSW 2017

The Netherlands is sending a strong delegation to America’s largest international music, film and media festival.

The South by South West (SXSW) festival, where music, film and interactive media merge, is held in Austin, Texas from 10 to 19 March 2017. Dutch participants include San Holo, Klyne, Michael Prins, St. Tropez and Drive Like Maria. Amsterdam Dance Event is organising several shows by Dutch DJs, including a show by Oliver Heldens.
The SXSW festival is one of the three major strategic events for the top-end creative industry. The other two are the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity in France (17-24 June) and the Expo Real in Munich, Germany (4-6 October). The Creative Industries Fund NL has made funding available for four of the Dutch makers featured in the official South by South West programme.

New Dutch Wave
A new platform has been set up for SXSW 2017 with the goal of promoting Dutch creativity and entrepreneurship on the international stage: New Dutch Wave. The New Dutch Wave Takeover House will offer a stimulating programme every day, including 'Deep Dives' with keynote speeches, workshops and panel debates on topics such as Augmented and Virtual Reality. There will also be a pitch competition before an audience of international investors and incubators.
What Design Can Do explores the use of high tech innovations with regard to sustainability issues. All sorts of showcases, musical performances, art, design and film are presented as part of the Creativity Rules The Wave programme. Finally, various interactive installations by for instance MediaMonks, Next Nature Network and Halal are planned.
