Station to Station #5: Places and Acts of Resistance

In the latest issue of DutchCulture | TransArtists' online magazine, discover how amid war, repression an displacement, culture fights back—in Ukraine & beyond.

There’s no need to state the obvious, but we do need to remind ourselves to remain grounded in these times of permacrisis. In our everyday lives and work, we constantly face the struggle between losing our minds or losing our hopes. Many of our colleagues internationally are facing a plethora of life-threatening issues, not only professionally but also in many other parts of their lives. Their fights, strength and endless inspiration are what this issue of Station to Station is all about: Places and Acts of Resistance, with a special focus on Ukraine.

In this issue, Zapravka, an initiative supporting art residencies in Ukraine, contributed a text from their first-hand experience working in and around the front lines. Also included is an impression from a visit to Kharkiv by Lotte Geeven, artist and advisor at DutchCulture | TransArtists, and a more general perspective on places and acts of resistance by Mary Ann DeVlieg, a long-term advocate for displaced and at-risk artists. Other contributors include Alma Salem, curator and the Executive Director of the Syrian Political Feminist Movement; Heidi Vogels, artist and filmmaker; and Bojana Panevska, writer and researcher, both also working as advisors at DutchCulture | TransArtists.
