International visitors: Susan Perlstein and Laurel Humble (USA)
Long Live Arts is a European initiative that aims to encourage older people to participate in arts and culture. The programme was founded by the Cultural Participation Fund (FCP), Fonds Sluyterman van Loo, Stichting RCOAK, the VSBfonds and the National Centre of Expertise for Cultural Education and Amateur Arts (LKCA).
DutchCulture is contributing to the European conference Long Live Arts on 20-22 May in The Hague, by inviting two international visitors: Susan Perlstein and Laurel Humble, both from the United States of America.
Susan Perlstein is considered the mother of the creative aging movement. She founded and directed the National Center for Creative Aging (2001- 2007) and Elders Share the Arts ESTA (1979- 2003) and initiated various other activities in the field of cultural participation by older people. Currently she is a consultant to the field advising on arts organizational development, training healthcare professionals, artists and organizations. Mrs Perlstein will deliver a key note speech at the Long Live Arts conference.
Laurel Humble is an assistant educator Community and Access Programs at the Museum of Modern Art MoMa in New York City. She's managing Prime Time, a new, multi-year MoMA initiative to increase and diversify the participation of older adults in the museum and to contribute to a more complex and positive perception of aging. Mrs Humble will attend the Long Live Arts conference and moderate a workshop (tbc).
