Aylin Özalp, Advisor Turkey

As Turkey Advisor for DutchCulture, my role is to support cultural professionals seeking to expand their scope to Turkey. The Dutch embassy in Ankara and the Consulate General in Istanbul are my partners in this mission. My job is to maintain an overview of the cultural landscape in Turkey. Guided by the Dutch cultural policy framework, I work on pinpointing the different actors in the field: from funders to artists and institutes, and everything in between and beyond. As the sector is so dynamic, I am constantly learning and always open to new ideas and suggestions.

My background is in international relations, having studied Political Science and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Amsterdam. Born to a Dutch mother and a Turkish father, I have always had different perspectives on cultural and contemporary topics. My intense curiosity led me to start working as a freelance programmer for numerous non-profit organisations, so I could discover different working environments and learn about different issues from a variety of people. Besides freelancing and working at DutchCulture, I am the chair of the board for Amsterdam-based Theatre RAST. All my work is dedicated to capacity building and supporting cultural professionals through a demand-driven approach.
