Open call: Prix de Rome Visual Arts 2023
The Prix de Rome is the incentive award for talented visual artists in the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. Unlike other years, there is no longer an age limit. Visual artists, including duos and collectives, can apply.
The prize is organized and financed by the Mondriaan Fund. Through an open call, four artists receive a budget to create new work. Their works will be shown in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam for three months. At the end of October, the winner will be announced. They will receive € 40.000 and the opportunity to participate in a residency programme of their choice. The aim of the Prix de Rome is to stimulate the development of exceptionally talented visual artists and thus to continue to update the visual arts field.
The Prix de Rome Visual Arts is open to all disciplines in the field of visual arts, as defined by the Mondriaan Fund. The visual artist must also meet the following conditions:
- Don’t follow education on a bachelor's or master's degree programme (artists who participate in a post-academic institution or postgraduate programme, such as the Rijksakademie, the Ateliers, the Jan van Eyck Academie, BAK or Sundaymorning@EKWC can apply)
- They have been working professionally as a visual artist for at least 1 year
- They are artistically active and embedded in professional visual arts practice in the Netherlands and/or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom
- In the case of a partnership, all members must meet the conditions above
