Open calls for Artist Residencies

TransArtists offers open calls for short-term and long-term residency programmes.

TransArtists is part of DutchCulture and shares knowledge and experience on artist-in-residence programmes, international opportunities for creative professionals to temporarily stay and work elsewhere. Check out TransArtists' latest open calls to help build extensive international networks and the artist residency database, which is the largest in the world with more than 1700 programmes available.

Open calls for residency programmes

Artist-in-residencies exist as open and reflective spaces for research and experimenting in the arts for production and presentation. These residencies help build extensive networks of relations: from artists, curators, and experts, to peers, local audiences, and partners (such as exhibition spaces, art academies, policymakers, funders and sponsors). The following open calls invite guests to work from within these local contexts, often applying cross-disciplinary approaches, and consequently exploring its existing structures and relations.

  • Greywood Arts (Killeagh, Ireland)

    Deadline: Aug 19. Greywood Arts is a multi-disciplinary artist’s residency in Killeagh, East Cork. Artists and creatives in all disciplines are welcome to stay in self-catering accommodation and have access to workspace.
  • Nantes Institute of Advanced Studies (Nantes, France)

    Deadline: Aug 31. The Nantes Institute for Advanced Study, is establishing a new fellowship in «Arts, Societies and Contemporary Mutations.» In this context, the IEA in collaboration with local partners, Lieu Unique, the Nantes Saint-Nazaire School of Fine Arts and Nantes Métropole, is offering an international artistic and research residency to artists from the global south.
  • Chalk Hill Artist Residency (Healdsburg, United States)

    Deadline: Aug 31. Chalk Hill Artist Residency is a unique opportunity for artists across mediums to work and stay at the beautiful Warnecke Ranch and Vineyard. The program is located in Sonoma County, an hour and a half north of San Francisco.
  • Willapa Bay AiR (Oysterville, United States)

    Deadline: Aug 31. Willapa Bay AiR is offering month-long, self-directed residencies, at no cost, to emerging and established writers, artists, musicians and composers, and scholars. Willapa Bay AiR is situated on 16 acres in coastal southwest Washington State.
  • Skaftfell Center for Visual Art (Seyðisfjörður, Iceland)

    Deadline: Sep 1. The residency program at Skaftfell creates an environment for inspiration, focus, and experimentation. It allows artists to experience life and work in a unique community where creativity is applied to the everyday and offers conditions that enrich the dialogue between art and life.
  • Van Gogh artist-in-residence (Zundert, Netherlands)

    Deadline: Sep 1. The Vincent van Gogh Huis is an arts centre built on the native soil of one of the most famous artists in history. It’s not a traditional museum but an active world of experiences, for art lovers as well as tourists.
  • Siao-Long Cultural Park (Tainan City, Taiwan)

    Deadline: Sep 7. Siao-Long aims to foster international exchange with artists from around the world and thereby create a vibrant community of artists, both local and international, emerging and established. Resident artists will be living in close proximity to local craftsmen and artisans and they are encouraged to take the community and the vibrant local culture as inspiration for their artworks.
  • Davvi Centre for Performing Arts (Hammerfest, Norway)

    Deadline: Feb 10, Sep 10, Feb 10, Sep 10. Davvi - Centre for Performing Arts is offering professional performing artists the possibility to apply for the Artist in Residency program. In the residency they accept all project within contemporary performing art.
  • Sam & Adele Golden Foundation for the Arts (New Berlin, United States)

  • Scuola Internazionale di Grafica (Venezia, Italy)

Founded in 1969, the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice is a vibrant center for Printmaking and Book Arts in the historical heart of one of the most beautiful art capitals in the world. Each month Italian and international artists come together to work in the Scuola's studios.
  • Artists Unlimited (Bielefeld, Germany)

    Deadline: Oct 1. Artists Unlimited is an artists association and art house that combines living and working under one roof since 1985. The project runs a gallery and a guest studio and has until now financed three-month-grants for 90 guest artists from all over the world.
  • Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (Amsterdam, Netherlands)

    Deadline: Oct 1. The Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten offers two-year residencies to around 45 artists each year with the goal of providing space for research, experiment and exchange. Apart from facilities such as a studio, work budget and stipend, there are extended technical and theory facilities.
  • Vermont Studio Center (Johnson, United States)

    Deadline: Jun 15, Oct 1, Feb 15. Founded by artists in 1984, Vermont Studio Center (VSC) has fostered creativity through community, collaboration, and quiet reflection during in-person residency for thousands of visual artists and writers from across the globe.
