Nick Verginis, Research Trainee

Born and raised in Athens, and as someone who loves learning new things and exploring new hobbies all the time, this city was the ideal environment to follow my creative drive wherever it took me. It was here that I finished my bachelor in Media Studies and developed my proficiency in English, Italian and some Norwegian. In Athens I was able to follow my passion for Theatre and participated in various art workshops, seminars and shows.

3 countries and 5 different cities later, I am now in Amsterdam doing my research traineeship at DutchCulture within the team of TransArtists. I currently study at the University of Groningen, where I have been pursuing my master's degree in Cultural Leadership since 2021. My research traineeship is focused on artist residencies in Southern Europe. TransArtists has an extensive residency database which is a(n) useful/advantageous tool for my research. I aim to identify trends, shortcomings and potential of artist residencies in the region. Residency spaces enter the spectrum of personal research where I am interested in finding the interaction between all kinds of spaces, whether physical, digital, common, public, private or in-between.

Next to my traineeship, I am a freelance journalist, often working for cultural magazines and websites. Currently I am writing about the circus, one of my deepest passions to which I dedicate my free time through trainings, workshops and attending festivals.
