Rick Busscher, Production

Rick Busscher, Production

My name is Rick Busscher, and I graduated from the Amsterdam University of the Arts in 2018, having studied production. Originally, I am from Weerdinge (in the province of Drenthe), where I first encountered culture during my internship at the site-specific theatre company PeerGrouP. As it happens, that was also my first international cultural exchange. At university, I often sought out the international aspect of art, doing my final project at the Moengo Festival in Surinam, for example. That experience taught me to take an open attitude towards the culture you want to exchange with.

At DutchCulture, I work as a producer of events and the visitor’s programmes. With an open attitude towards the other’s stories, I want to help myself, the audience and the participants inspire and surprise each other and thereby bring about valuable cultural exchange. In my job, I focus on how people and society relate. I find it fascinating to play with the contrast between art as an end and art as a means, and it is by treading this line that I seek to contribute to personal, social and political development. The projects that appeal most strongly to me are those with a direct link to a social theme in which inclusivity is an important condition.

In addition to my work at DutchCulture, I serve as the business director of ROTOR Performance, board member of Stichting Art1,  and work as a freelancer in the performing arts. Since september 2020 I enrolled in the  Master Creative Producing at DAS Graduate School Amsterdam School for the Arts.
