Open call: Dutch Slavery Memorial Year 2023-2024

The Cultural Participation Fund calls for initiatives that contribute to commemorating and celebrating the abolition of slavery. Deadline: 1 May 2024.
By Eline Bingen

Throughout the Dutch Slavery Memorial Year - from 1 July 2023 to 1 July 2024 - special attention will be paid to an important, painful and until very recently underexposed part of our shared history. With this context, the Cultural Participation Fund launches an open call for activities and initiatives that contribute to commemorating and celebrating the abolition of slavery in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The subsidy scheme is meant for initiatives that:

  • bring aspects of history and slavery to the forefront
  • create educational material
  • stimulate healing processes
  • set up (international) cooperation between institutions

The focus is on activities in which participants are actively involved.

Applicants
With regard to potentially supported projects, the community(ies) itself should be the main applicant. It is important that they contribute to the design, organisation and implementation of the project. They must take the lead in execution. The principal applicant may cooperate with, for example, cultural organisations, heritage institutions or educational institutions. This may also involve collaboration with an organisation abroad through online meetings, a report or sharing and applying forms of cooperation between the different organisations.

Application period
16 Januari 2023 – 01 May 2024
