Han Nefkens Foundation: Video Art Production Grant

Han Nefkens Foundation: Video Art Production Grant

The Han Nefkens Foundation is a private, non-profit organisation set up in Barcelona in 2009 by Dutch writer and patron, Han Nefkens. It focuses solely on the production of video art, with the aim of connecting people through art across the world. The Foundation develops its activities thanks to a large worldwide network of experts who combine their knowledge and experience as scouts, advisors and jury members when selecting the artists who will benefit from its support.

Positioned as a platform for emerging to mid-career video artists to advance their careers, its main activity is to commission new works through grants and commissions on an international level that culminate in exhibitions at partner institutions. The Foundation works closely with the artists in a made-to-measure way, according to each artist's needs. This can involve supporting the creation of new work, financing residencies abroad, purchasing work tools such as new cameras, and connecting with art institutions. The subsidy and mode of support are customized and will be tailored to each video artist's needs.

Video Art Production Grants are tied to several partner institutions that will commit to showing the newly produced work. In this way, the grant offers the artist the chance to forge a dialogue with art professionals from each institution, to show the new work to a large international public in different social, cultural and political contexts.

The winning artist or collective of artists receives a sum of 15,000 USD for the production of a screen-based video artwork. The awardee is selected from a list of nominees put forward by professionals from the artistic or related sector along with the partner museums. Each jury, made up of the directors and curators of each partner museum, selects the winner together through a dialogue aimed at unanimous agreement.
