K.F. Hein Fund: Open Call Grensverlegger Travel Grant 2026

Funding to support artists and designers from Utrecht in their artistic development

The K.F. Hein Fund is committed to making the Utrecht region a better and stronger place, while ensuring that residents have opportunities to thrive and reach their full potential. They support outstanding initiatives and individuals through grants, advice, awards, scholarships, and commissions. They also seek to bring valuable projects to a wider audience and work collaboratively to explore how partnerships can help strengthen initiatives.

The Grensverlegger Travel Grant supports artists and designers from the province of Utrecht in their artistic development by helping to fund international travel. They focus on the transformative impact this experience can have on the applicant's creative practice.

This program is designed for professional visual artists and designers across all disciplines and career stages who live and/or work in the province of Utrecht. Applications are limited to individual artists or designers (not duos or groups), and bachelor students at art academies are not eligible.

The grant supports various forms of international experience, including residencies, study trips, and retreats. The Grensverlegger Travel Grant prioritizes creative development over public presentation. Your journey should focus on personal growth and artistic deepening rather than producing new work, executing a specific project, or mounting an exhibition. Your proposal must demonstrate a clear developmental goal. Applications focused solely on project execution are not eligible.

How much

This grant covers up to 50% of your total costs, with the remaining 50% funded through other
sources.

Category A: Up to €5,000 for substantial applications involving longer stays, such as multi
month international residencies.
Category B: Up to €1,000 for shorter experiences such as study trips and professional visits.

They can also provide guidance during trip preparation, including support with additional funding applications to
third parties (particularly for Category A applications).

Requirements

To apply for the Grensverlegger Travel Grant, submit one PDF containing:
• Cover letter with your name, address, phone number, and date of birth
• Clear project description (maximum two A4 pages) explaining your plan and its
relevance to your professional practice
• Curriculum vitae (including recent exhibitions)
• Portfolio of recent work (last 5 years) with maximum 20 images
