Stokroos Foundation: Open Call Residency NAIRS - Paul Deiters Stipend

Stokroos Foundation: Open Call Residency NAIRS - Paul Deiters Stipend

Stichting Stokroos: Open Call Residency NAIRS - Paul Deiters Stipendium
Stipend for artists and designers to do a residency in Switzerland

The Stokroos Foundation was founded in 1992 by Paul Deiters (1952-2017). His love for people, nature, and art inspired him to contribute to a better world. In 2005, Stokroos began implementing its objective: to support designers and visual artists. The foundation's interest lies in creative practices and plans that blend tradition and innovation in a surprising way. Practices that involve the use of traditional craft methods are therefore given special priority.

Each year Stokroos Foundation invites artists and designers to apply for a residency at Fundazion NAIRS in Scuol, Switzerland. One artist/designer will be selected to live and work at at NAIRS for a period of 3 months. For Paul Deiters (1952-2017), founder and sole benefactor of the Stokroos Foundation, this region was a second home from a young age. This inspired Stokroos to start the Paul Deiters Stipend in 2019. In 2023, visual artist Ceel Mogami de Haas received the Paul Deiters Stipend to stay at NAIRS. Previous recipients include visual artist Marit Westerhuis and designer Franciska Meijers.

About the residency
Since 1988, this former bathhouse has been a refuge for artists from various disciplines. After a thorough renovation in 2016, it now offers well-equipped accommodations and workspaces, an exhibition space, an auditorium, a library, and a communal kitchen. You'll be staying with about 10 other creators.

NAIRS is located in the Engadin, an Alpine region in the southeastern corner of Switzerland. It is characterized by robust, richly decorated houses and an overwhelming natural environment that has attracted many mountain sports enthusiasts and artists. The relatively sparsely populated area has a high density of museums, libraries, galleries, and private collections. NAIRS is situated in a valley amidst high mountains, right by the Inn River. The area is also known for its natural springs, which boosted the tourism and health industry in the 19th century.
