DutchCulture | Buitengaats: Erwin Olaf

DutchCulture gathers data on international cultural activities from the Netherlands in all creative disciplines. This week's highlight: Erwin Olaf

Photographer Erwin Olaf (1959) is one of the frequent travellers of the Dutch art scene. Or rather his work can be seen all over the globe.

Erwin Olaf's art implicitly visualises the unspoken, the overlooked, that which typically resists easy documentation. Olaf's trademark is to address social issues, taboos and bourgeois conventions within the framework of a highly stylised and cunning mode of imagery. Mixing photojournalism with studio photography, Olaf emerged on the international art scene in 1988, when his series Chessmen was awarded the first prize in the Young European Photographer competition.

This month, Olaf is participating in various group and solo exhibitions in a number of European cities.
