Karsu Donmez starts her Dutch theatre tour
Singer and pianist Karsu Dönmez just turned 21 but has already performed at many national and international venues, one of them being the legendary Carnegie Hall in New York. Starting September 2011 it’s finally time for a Dutch theatre tour.
Since she was 14 Karsu is performing on a professional base, first in the restaurant of her parents in Amsterdam, later also on a number of (inter)national venues. Besides that she is a regular guest on television shows such as ‘Pauw & Witteman’ and ‘De Wereld Draait Door’.
Karsu writes and composes her own songs, that are a mix of jazz, blues, funk and ethnic influences. Jazz is the main component of her repertoire but she is not afraid to blend it with other musical genres. “I grew up with a lot of musical influences, from reggae till opera.” This also translates to her live performances, where she let’s Chopin easily transform into Turkish Black Sea music and a traditional Spanish song into a highly contagious salsa rhythm.
During her first theatre tour Karsu and her band will play a mix of known and new songs, mostly own repertoire but also songs from Turkey, Azerbaijan and other countries around the Mediterranean Sea. Karsu keeps on developing herself and will surprise her audience with new experiments.
