Dutch TV formats continue to gain success in China

On Friday, April 4, the Chinese edition of “Entertainment Experience” was launched at the official signing ceremony with director John Woo and a dream team of film professionals, including actress Zhang Ziyi. Dutch TV formats continue to gain success in China and around the globe.

Minister André Driessen was in attendance on behalf of the embassy. He read out a message from the Netherlands most renowned film director Paul Verhoeven, who was intimately involved with the Dutch Entertainment Experience, to John Woo.

Entertainment Experience

In 2012, Paul Verhoeven, directed his latest film “Tricked” through an innovative film-making concept that invited Dutch talent and the general audience to partake in the production of a feature film. This “Entertainment Experience” was a great success awarded with a OneShow award and a Digital Emmy Award in Cannes in 2013.

Now, world-class Chinese movie director John Woo will take the role of Paul Verhoeven and guide the Chinese public in making the first ever user generated movie in China, together with his team of professionals.

Co-production treaty

The launch of Entertainment Experience China comes just two weeks after the Netherlands and China signed a cooperation agreement in the film industry during a visit by the Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and Science Jet Bussemaker. This cooperation agreement forms the foundation for a co-production treaty that will further improve access to the Chinese market for Dutch films, documentaries and media formats.
