DutchCulture gathers data on international cultural activities from the Netherlands in all creative disciplines. This week's highlight: Marijke van Warmerdam

The exhibition of Marijke van Warmerdam Time is ticking is the first show of the State Hermitage Museum St. Petersburg completely devoted to video art. It launches a series of exhibitions organized by the Hermitage 20/21 project and aims to introduce public to the best examples of the classical and recent video art.

Marijke van Warmerdam (b. 1959) is a Dutch artist who works with different media but is most famous for her short looped films. In 1995 she gained international recognition at the Venice Biennale, representing the Dutch pavilion together with Marlene Dumas and Maria Roosen. Now her works have become instant classics and are displayed in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, and the Museum of Modern Art in Antwerp. The exhibition Time is ticking is her first show in Russia.

Time is ticking features four classical films - Wind; Couple; Light; and In the distance made in 2010. Together with recent works on fabric – Time is ticking, 2014  and Good night, 2014 - they represent an interpretation of the nature of time.

The exhibition is held within International Festival of Arts Diaghilev PS.
