Young Brazilian and European journalists working together

As part of the international journalism training programme Beyond Your World (BYW), a new project has been launched under the name “Beyond Brazil – Brasil Além”. This project is a cooperation between Lokaalmondiaal based in the Netherlands and the Brazilian media organisation Canal Futura. Throughout the year of 2014, a total number of 21 young European journalists (from the six BYW project countries) will travel across the Atlantic Ocean to Brazil.

While intensively collaborating, young Brazilian and European journalists will - in groups of three - cover events in Brazil before, during and after the World Cup. The group, existing of 7 different nationalities, will follow a one-year online training programme and will produce a total amount of 84 media productions (primarily audiovisual media). During the project, all participants will be supervised by Lokaalmondiaal and Canal Futura.

Beyond Your World is a pan-European project that seeks to inspire and enable the next generation of European journalists to cover international development issues. It is taking place in six European countries – the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Belgium, Portugal and Bulgaria – and is working with a range of universities and media schools to teach students how to cover stories in the developing world.

Beyond Your World is funded by the European Commission and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
