In recent years, the Netherlands and China have strengthened ties in various areas, including arts and culture. More and more artists and designers from the Netherlands work in or with China. DutchCulture has invited documentary maker and photographer Ruben Terlou (Langs de Oevers van de Yangtze, 2016, Door het Hart van China, 2018) to meet with other artists and cultural professionals. Together with the audience, they reflect on Sino-Dutch cultural exchanges from a broader social perspective and address topics like youth and education, tradition and innovation.

A key condition for successful collaboration for artists, designers, cultural institutions and companies is to understand the cultural differences between our countries and to be able to cope with them. Especially in rapidly changing modern China, who’s scale, history and social codes differ considerably from ours, it is paramount to operate sensibly.

Amy Ho, Senior Manager at the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in Hong Kong SAR, will also join us in to introduce the West Kowloon Cultural District, among other exciting new developments in the art and culture scene of Hong Kong.
