How to present and discuss historical trauma in museums of memory? Find out more during the Culture Talk of 20 December.
Date(s)

We warmly invite you to join our Culture Talk on Russian Museums of Memory by experts Svetlana Prasolova and Nadezhda Maximova on Thursday 20 December at DutchCulture in Amsterdam.

Two Russian professionals in the field of memory museums will be visiting The Netherlands in the context of a visitors program. During their Culture Talk, they will give a presentation on how they present stories of the past to the general public.

The purpose of the Anna Akhmatova Museum in St Petersburg is not only to tell the story of the tumultuous life of poetess Anna Akhmatova, but also to celebrate the memory of the people who saved her notes and materials in spite of the repression by the state. Next year, in 2019, the museum will celebrate it's thirtieth anniversary. Svetlana Prasolova, Head of the Education department of the museum, will discuss various methods to present such topics to audiences of all ages. She will also talk about parallels in the lives of two key female authors of the twentieth century: Anna Akhmatova and Anne Frank.

Nadezhda Maximova works as the Responsible Secretary of the Association of Russian Museums of Memory, founded by the State Gulag Museum. Her main expertise lies in developing new principles, methods and technologies in terms of cultural heritage preservation. She is interested in collaborations between museums, public organizations, foundations, and experts in the field of historical remembrance and storytelling.
