
International visitors: Mia Maria and Bambang Purwanto (IDN)
Both guest will contribute to our Indonesia Now seminar on 25 June in Amsterdam.
Mia Maria is a curator and art writer working in Jakarta, Indonesia. From 2009-2013 she has been running an art column for an Indonesian lifestyle magazine as well as writing for various media in Indonesia and Singapore. The past few years, she has curated a number of experimental projects featuring emerging and established Indonesian artists. At the seminar she will introduce the audience to the latest trends in contemporary visual art in Indonesia. She combines the seminar with explorations on art collaboration between the Netherlands and Indonesia, amongst others with the Mondriaan Fund.
Bambang Purwanto is professor of history at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences of the Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. His research interests are in historiography, history of every day life and economic history. He will discuss further collaboration with the Free University and the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies during this visit. At the seminar he will address the changing attitude toward colonial history in Indonesia.
