Peter Bogers’s first solo exhibition in China
Scanning Caocahngdi – Caochangdi Scanning
C-Space is delighted to present Dutch new media artist Peter Bogers’s first solo exhibition in China, Scanning Caocahngdi – Caochangdi Scanning opens on May 10th, 2014 and will run through June 15th, 2014.
During a residential stay at the C-space gallery in Beijing, Bogers made daily video-recordings at a local crossroad in Caochangdi. With the language-barrier in mind, Bogers used his camera as a tool to communicate, where he simply put it on a tripod and stood next to it for hours at a time, and used this situation to get in contact with passers-by. The recordings became the basis for a comprehensive audiovisual installation presented in C-Space.
All footages were edited into a breathing rhythm that is repeatedly playing back and forth. It presents to the viewer, the possibility to closely study the gradual development of daily situations and the inevitable confrontation with the idea that it is the element of time that bounds all movements and human actions, where it is a huge invisible network, which inextricably connecting all matter, including physical objects and human bodies.
In Scanning Caochangdi - Caochangdi Scanning, all is tied to an overarching rigid time structure that is claustrophobic because of its inevitability, though also simultaneously opens up an intense world of trivial but intriguing events and their subtle interdependencies.
