Open Call: 5th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art

Young international and Russian curators and artists can apply to participate in the 5th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art. Deadline: 10 December 2015

From 1 July to 10 August 2016 the National Centre for Contemporary Arts (NCCA) and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA) organize the 5th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art. Centred around the theme ‘Deep Inside’ curator Nadim Samman (1983, UK) selected works of leading modern artists from the UK, Russia, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Morocco to participate in the main project. The venue for the main project will be the Trekhgornaya Manufactory, one of Moscow’s oldest factories and, at the same time, a fledgling exhibition space that hosts large cultural projects.

Moscow International Biennale for Young Art
The Moscow International Biennale for Young Art, which will be held for the fifth time in the summer of 2016, is one of the largest and most ambitious projects in the sphere of contemporary art in Russia. The biennale’s goals are to bring attention to new names, to support and encourage the creative initiatives of artists and curators of the new generation, to create the conditions for their public expression and, as a result, the development of the modern art community. Participants in the project are given the chance to establish connections and creative engagement with the professional artistic community. The biennale creates the space to present the latest strategies of a new generation of artists and curators.

Open call
Along with the main project of the 5th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art, the biennale will have a parallel educational program and two strategic projects, which will be held at the National Centre for Contemporary Arts and Moscow Museum of Modern Art. Curators and artists of the projects will be selected based on the call for proposals on the official website of the biennale.

Works submitted to the Biennale may be those of Russian or foreign artists of the new generation, working in the field of contemporary art with the latest strategies, concepts, and techniques (individual, collective, or as part of curatorial projects). Artists of the new generation are defined as those whose age at the time of the opening of the Biennale does not exceed 35 years. Applications can be submitted for both works already realized and displayed as well as for unrealized works, the development of which is shown in a detailed sketch. There are no restrictions on the number, type, genre and technique of execution. The application is free of charge.
