Academy of Arts launched
Nineteen leading artists represent the new Academy of Arts in the Netherlands.
The Academy will be a place to exchange ideas with colleagues from other artistic disciplines and science. It will focus on the role of art in society and the relationship between science and art.
The first nineteen members include the writer Arnon Grunberg, composer Michel van der Aa, architect Francine Houben, photographer and filmmaker Anton Corbijn, artist Aernout Mik, director Johan Simons and conductor Jaap van Zweden.
The Academy is part of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and a co-initiative of the Minister of Education, Culture and Science Bussemaker. It is established for a period of at least three and a half years.
