Dutch museum delegation travels to Saint Petersburg

From 24 until 27 November four Dutch museum professionals participate in the international conference organized by the State Hermitage Museum St.Petersburg.

The conference 'Museums and Youth - 2015: Museum of the XXI century. New educational paradigmsin Saint Petersburg' is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Education Department of the State Hermitage museum and focusses on innovative projects in the field of museum education. DutchCulture coordinates the participation of the Dutch delegation in the conference in close cooperation with the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Saint Petersburg.

The Student Education Centre of the State Hermitage museum has invited four Dutch speakers for the conference of 2015: Herman van Gessel (Reinwardt Academy), Lisa Kleeven (Tropenmuseum Amsterdam), Rinske Hordijk (ARTtube) and Catrien Schreuder (Boijmans van Beuningen). Besides their participation in the conference, a parallel programme has been made for all delegation members in which they meet with their Russian counterparts and investigate possibilities for future collaborations. All members of the Dutch delegation will also write a paper for the conference publication.

The Dutch delegation has been invited by Artemy Baranov, who works as education coordinator for the Student Education Centre. In the spring of 2015 Baranov took part in a visitors programme for young Russian art professionals organised by DutchCulture and International Foundation Manifesta. During his visitors programme Baranov has been introduced to innovative projects in the field of museum education in the Netherlands.

The participation of the Dutch museum delegation in the conference will contribute to the strengthening of the international collaboration and knowledge exchange between Russian and Dutch museum professionals and educators and create new possibilities for long-term collaboration between educational institutes in Russia and the Netherlands.
