The End of Nomadism? Springdance debate 24 April in Utrecht
At the end of a week in which international cultural traffic was heavily disrupted due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland, Springdance organises a debate about the future of international networking and producing, in collaboration with A Soul for Europe, Vrede van Utrecht and SICA
The End of Nomadism?
Saturday 24 April, 11.00 – 13.00, Grand Hotel Karel V Utrecht
The dance world is strongly affected by what we call ‘globalization’. Performances are coproduced by different international partners and tour around the world. For a long time this way of nomadic existence was seen as a liberation from the narrow restrictions of traditional institutions. But slowly artists become tired of the imperative of mobility and look for lasting and long-term working conditions.
Facing the growing debate about the climate change, the imminent end of cheap flights and the growing political atmosphere that favours the national over the international, it is time to start a discussion about new ways of international networking and producing that takes the changing needs of an artistic practice as well as the changing cultural politics into account.
Participants
Margriet Leemhuis (Ambassador International Cultural Cooperation, NL), Nele Hertling (co-founder A Soul for Europe, DE), Steve Austen (permanent fellow Felix Meritis, NL), Sven Neumann (dramaturg, DE), Eva Martinez (dance curator, UK), Bettina Kogler (dance curator, AT), Nicole Beutler (choreographer, NL), Manuel Pelmus (choreographer, RO).
