Fresh focus on India

On 23 September, during Unseen Amsterdam, you are cordially invited for a presentation on contemporary Indian photography.
Date(s)
Friday 23 September 2016 16:00

From 21 to 25 September, three talented young Indian photographers are visiting The Netherlands to strengthen cultural ties between The Netherlands and India. The photographers, Mansi Thapliyal, Karthik Subramanian en Soham Gupta represent a new fresh view and focus in the contemporary photography scene in India.

On Friday 23 September, during the Unseen Photo Fair & Festival, work of the three talents will be shown by Iona Fergusson and Tanvi Mishra of the Delhi Photo Festival, the biggest international photo fair in India.

Fergusson and Mishra will also give an overview of the last 25 years of emerging and established practitioners as well as institutions, galleries, festivals and collectives that are shaping the discourse in India today. The easy accessibility of digital formats as well as the effortless exchange of ideas via Internet have both impacted the photographic practice in notable ways. The current photographic landscape in India is a far cry from the exoticism that surrounded images associated with India in the past.

The presentation will take up to 25 minutes, followed by a 15 minutes slideshow with examples of contemporary photography in India. After this there will be time for questions for Iona Fergusson and Tanvi Mishra and the three photographers Mansi Thapliyal, Karthik Subramanian en Soham Gupta.

This event is part of the DutchCulture – New Cultural Horizon India project and is organized in cooperation with the Unseen Photo Fair & Festival.
