Sapphire Palace - Istanbul Design Biennale

During Istanbul Design Biennial the SAFIR lamps -designed by Jacob de Baan- will be exhibited in the Romanian Cultural Institute 'Dimitrie Cantemir'. A great match between the historical palace and the most recent design by Jacob de Baan.

The SAFIR (sapphire) lighting collecton is my latest design and it is highly inspired by Istanbul. Its translucent sheets made by biodegradable polymer, jute, acrylate or birch, reflect the cityеs multiform feature. SAFIR collection pays particular attention to ecological and sustainable solutions: a standard light bulb socket containing an energy-efficient lamp holds its structure together. No glue or screws are used. It is efficiently packed in a flat box to avoid environmental damage and high transportation costs.
