Funding for projects in the fields of design, aimed at research and cooperation in an international context

The Creative Industries Fund is one of the 6 national cultural funds. It provides grants that contribute to promoting high-quality standards, development, and professionalisation of the contemporary creative industry in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

With the Internationalisation of the Design Sector Grant Scheme, the fund wants to contribute to strengthening international exchange and sustainable international cooperation. Projects that are eligible for funding, aim at research and collaboration in an international context. Activities should mainly take place abroad, with one or more international partner(s).

Professional makers, design agencies, cultural institutions or organisations from the Netherlands and the Caribean part of the Kingdom (Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Saba, Sint-Eustatius, Sint-Maarten) that collaborate with one or more international partners and whose activities mainly take place abroad.

The following grants may be provided:

  • A starting grant for the first phase of a larger project that still requires extensive preparatory research (f.i. definition of the problem/ research questions, partner search, development of a communication plan, etc)
  • A regular project grant.

The grant cannot be applied for a project within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

How much
  • Starting grant: a maximum of € 7,500 (co-financing is not required);
  • Regular project grant: starting from € 7,500 (co-financing is required)
Requirements
  • The applicant is registered in the Trade Register of the Dutch Chamber of Commerce or in one of the Chambers of Commerce within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, or a foreign equivalent thereof;
  • The project starts within six months of the date of the decision;
  • The duration of the project is no longer than 24 months;
  • There is a budget deficit, and the need for a subsidy has been demonstrated, at the discretion of the board;
  • It can reasonably be expected that the applicant's approach will achieve the goals set by the applicant;
  • The applicant has not failed to fulfill its subsidy obligations in connection with a project for which the Creative Industries Fund has previously granted a subsidy;
  • The outcome will be published or made publicly accessible in another manner;
  • All cultural institutions or organisations involved in an application and that are located in the Kingdom of the Netherlands subscribe and adhere to the Diversity and Inclusion Code and the Governance Code Culture;
  • The applicant applies the principles of the Fair Practice Code when implementing and accounting for the project
  • Assessment criteria:
    • the artistic-content value;
    • the significance of the chosen theme and question or design assignment in relation to foreign demand and its relevance for the Dutch creative industry;
    • the effectiveness in design, methodology, expertise involved and the expected reach.
