Netherlands Embassy in Brazil: Open call for Cultural Connections
Seeking to facilitate international cooperation between the Netherlands and Brazil in the cultural field, the Embassy and the Consulates General of the Netherlands invite Brazilian cultural institutions, artists, cultural professionals, producers, and collectives to submit proposals aimed at fostering cultural exchange between our two countries.
Projects and subsidies have to contribute to the goals listed in the international cultural policy framework 2025-2028:
- A strong international position for the Dutch cultural sector through enduring cooperation, exchanges and visibility;
- Supporting bilateral relations through cultural projects;
- Using the power of the cultural and creative sector to promote sustainable development.
The embassy is looking for projects that particularly address social inequalities and promote sustainability, diversity, and inclusion within all cultural activities and initiatives. In the year 2025, it particularly encourages the submission of projects that relate to COP30-related themes.
Cultural institutions, artists, cultural professionals, producers, and collectives that
- are Brazilian legal entities with no tax or fiscal debts to the federal and state governments
- have a solid financial management
- are not dependent on Dutch financial contributions for its operation and maintenanc
- guarantee the efficient implementation of the activities for which funding is being requested
- Cultural projects that highlight Dutch culture and/or promote cultural exchange between Dutch culture and Brazilian culture;
- Digital, in-person, and hybrid projects can be supported;
- Workshops, residencies, knowledge exchange, capacity building and visitors programmes in the cultural and creative sector can also potentially be supported.
- Expenses that are eligible for support arevtransportation, travel, accommodation and marketing. Funding requests can include an extended stay for Dutch creatives which enables them to participate in a public programme or build stronger connections with international art and design professionals and/or the general public
The Embassy does not support scientific, political or commercial activities.
Expenses that are not eligible for support are:
- Overhead costs (staff salaries, rent, office supplies) of the organisation;
- Fees for the artists/designers from the Netherlands;
- Salary payment for employees and professionals directly involved in the project is allowed, provided it is calculated exclusively when working on the project
A maximum of BRL 50,000 (approximitaly €8,300)
Contribution from the Embassy will not exceed 50% of total activity costs.
Cultural projects must
- highlight Dutch culture and/or promote cultural exchange between Dutch culture and Brazilian culture which es place on an equal footing (content-wise, organisationally, if possible financially), obeying the Dutch Fair Practice Code;
- have a clear cultural component;
- be of undisputed organisational and artistic quality and have a solid communication strategy;
- take place in Brazil;
- involve at least one Brazilian partner and one Dutch partner, each with a clearly defined role within the project.
- begin after 1 May 2025, and last until no later than 31 December 2025. Projects that have already begun before the acceptance of the proposal by the Netherlands are only eligible if the requested funding is for new activities within the scope of the ongoing project.
