The Dutch Topsector Creative Industrie published its interim review.

After about two years in the « top sector policy », the top-team creative industry publishes its first review in the public monitor.

The creative industry is one of the fastest growing sectors of the Dutch economy. It is composed of a group of sub-sectors such as design, architecture, fashion, gaming, advertising, media & entertainment, advertising, music and film.

In 2011, after being appointed as top sector, the top-team has prepared the creative industries agenda « creative industries in top form », with specific focus in the fields of knowledge, innovation, internationalization, financing and human capital. Within this agenda is a central ambition : the creative economy of the Netherlands should become the largest in Europe by 2020.

In the past two years, a certain number of important steps were taken toward this 2020 ambition. The public monitor shows that the creative industries as sector has beneficiated from becoming a top sector. Funds for research were made available, some regulations were adapted/changed and more possibilities of financing were given to pilot projects and international activities, including joint/common presentations at the Hannover Messe/Fair (2013), at the World Design Capital 2014 (Cape Town) and at SxSW in Austin (USA).
