DutchCulture welcomes the Culture Compass for Europe
Putting culture at the heart of EU policy making
The European Commission has published their Culture Compass for Europe. Through this it shows that culture and cultural diversity is essential for the EU and that it has to be fostered and celebrated. This shared vision is a commitment to strengthening the EU policy framework in supporting European culture.
The report states that increased political commitment and cultural investment are necessary to advance this Culture Compass strategic orientation.
DutchCulture embraces and supports this vision in order to support the international ambitions of all artists, makers and to safeguard culture in the broadest sense of the word.
"Europe for Culture" and "Culture for Europe"
This vision feeds into four key directions to guide EU policies to mobilise investment in European Culture:
- A Union that upholds and strengthens European values and cultural rights.
- A Union that empowers artists and cultural professionals and supports people
- A Union that draws on culture and cultural heritage to become more competitive, resilient and cohesive
- A Union that champions international cultural relations and partnerships.
These directions are further explained in the report.
