Lisztanbul - Liszt meets Istanbul

When Franz Liszt arrived in Constantinople in 1847, he was immediately handcuffed. Apparently, a pianist, a certain Listmann, had arrived several weeks earlier, took advantage of Liszt’s reputation and passed himself off as the star of the keyboard.

The Liszt competition has made a short movie to explain Liszt relationship with Istanbul. (Dutch only)

In cooperation with the Musicology department of the University of Utrecht, the Liszt Competition will present an evening on Liszt and Istanbul, with the original programme of the concert that Liszt gave to the Sultan as well as a Turkish culinary buffet. Turkisch / Dutch columnist Funda Müjde tells about Istanbul as Liszt experienced it.
