An impressive collection of Chinese propaganda posters from the 50s, 60s and 70s, collected at Beijing flea markets.  It includes posters with bright colored scenes of hard working farmers with happy faces, and portraits of Mao. At the time, these posters could be found in Chinese living rooms, factories, and in the streets. But from the 26th of April to May 30, these posters can be seen in the Usva gallery.

The  opening of this exhibition will be on April 26 at 2100 and can be attended free of charge, just like the rest of the exhibition period. You can find the gallery in the Usva building at Munnekeholm 10, edgewise across the old postal office. At the opening, you can also get a copy of the accompanying publication, ‘Doctrine on Display’ with contributions of students from various departments, an essay from sinologist and renowned Dutch propaganda poster collector Prof. dr. Stefan Landsberger and an essay from International Relations lecturer Pieter Swieringa on the relation of these posters to contemporary street art.
