Visiting Talk by Alec Coles

Alec Coles will give a presentation at DutchCulture about the Australian plans for the Dirk Hartog Year 2016.

In 2016, it will be 400 years since Dirk Hartog arrived at Cape Inscription. This was the first European contact with Western Australia. Australia is planning to commemorate this in a number of ways.

Mr. Alec Coles, CEO of the Western Australian Museum and member of the commemoration committee, is visiting the Netherlands as part of the International Visitors Programme of the Heritage Desk. He will give a presentation at DutchCulture about the Australian plans for the Dirk Hartog Year 2016. During this presentation, Mr. Coles will explain the aims and plans of Western Australian Government to commemorate this historic event. After which there will be time for questions.

Mr. Coles has been delegated by the Western Australian (WA) Government to investigate and develop cultural and commercial connections between WA and the Netherlands to support the 2016 Dirk Hartog commemoration. Mr. Arnold Stroobach, Honorary Consul of the Netherlands to Western Australia, will also be present.
