Prominent companies and SMEs
Prominent companies producing white goods and consumer electronics (e.g. Arçelik, Vestel), passenger and commercial vehicles (e.g. Ford Otosan, Temsa, Otokar, Karsan, Tofaş), electrical equipment (e.g. Vi-ko), glassware and porcelain ware (e.g. Şişecam-Paşabahçe, Porland), home and office furniture (e.g. Koleksiyon, Nurus, İstikbal, Bürotime, Tuna, Çilek) and sanitary ware (e.g. VitrA-Artema, ECA-Serel) are known as having in-house design groups.
Apart from these mostly large sized companies, many small and medium sized companies employ industrial designers or seek the expertise of designers externally for their selected projects (such as Step-pen, Ernamaş, Arzum, Banat). Unfortunately, SMEs which form the biggest portion of the Turkish industry (almost 99 %), still constitute an unreliable source of employment for industrial designers as they are very suspicious of the value that a designer may provide to their company and they are not willing to pay the cost of their work.
