Concertgebouw Amsterdam

In January 2007 Turkish pop diva Sezen Aksu, who sold millions of albums worldwide, performed with the Metropole Orchestra directed by Arjan Tien.

            In October 2008 Eurovision Songfestival winner Sertab Erener performed with the Metropole Orchestra directed by Arjan Tien.

In October 2008 Ferhan & Ferzan Önder, a piano duo (in collaboration with KAM) gave a performance, wherein they played works by various composers.

In November 2008 Efe Baltacigil, on the cello, and Benjamin Hochman, on the piano, gave a performance (in collaboration with KAM). Together they interpreted Turkish and Western classics.

In November 2008 Kudsi Erguner and ensemble (Sufi) gave a performance. He performed classical Ottoman compositions on Turkish instruments, interspersed with vocal improvisations.

In November 2008, Cihat Askin (violin) and his ensemble ‘Istanbul Soloists’ gave a performance together with guest violist Gil Sharon (violin). (In collaboration with KAM)

 

Tropentheater

In February 2007, Hüsnü Senlendirici, a famous clarinetist, and his ensemble, gave a performance. His ensemble is based on traditional melodies with contemporary elements, like jazz, funk and orientalism.

            In February 2007, Kardes Türküler (songs of brotherhood), an ensemble of twelve musicians, performed songs from the various cultures from Turkey, sung in their original language.

            In March 2007, Ugur Isik performed Turkish folkmusic traditions by using the Western classical cello. As a special guest the Dutch basist Eric van Western joined the performance.

            In March 2007, Ethnorhythmix, directed by Fahrettin Yarkin, gave a performance. They are a group of four percussionists who bring together rhythms from India, Iran, Spain and Turkey.      

            In October 2008, the Mikail Aslan Band with Özlem Taner & Nilüfer Akbal, gave a performance. It is described as a “Turkish-Kurdish encounter”.

            In October 2008, Taksim trio (Hüsnü Senlendirici, clarinet; Ismail Tuncbilek, baglama; Aytac Dogan, kanun) performed. They each have an individual career, and with Taksim Trio they bring together their three instruments.

            In November 2008, Sabahat Akkiraz, Musa Eroglu & Mustafa Özarslan were ‘Singing Türküs Together’.

            In February 2010, there was a double-concert by the Pera Fasil Ensemble and Coskun Sabah. They make music from Ottoman palaces and songs about Istanbul’s nightlife.

            In March 2010, the Serkan Cagri Ensemble and Yildiz Ibrahimova sang together. Their music is on the verge of jazz, classical, folk and avant-garde music.

            In March 2010, Ahirkapi Orchestra, the biggest gypsy orchestra of Turkey, mixing arabesk and gypsyswing music, performed.

            In March 2010, in a show named Istanbul Sacree, musicians played religious and mystical music from Greek, Armenian, Jewish and Islamic communities.

 

Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ

In February 2007 the Ankara National Opera and Ballet performed “Tango Della Primavera”.

In October 2008 the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble gave a performance called II Turco in Italia, based on Rossini’s II Turco in Italia (1814).

In February 2010 Karsu Dönmez, a jazz musician, performed. She is often described as the Turkish Nora Jones.

In April 2010 Darbuka Düm! gave their premiere show, a family concert.

 

Bimhuis

In February 2007, Ayse Tütüncü, a pianist, performed.

            In March 2007, mercan Dede “Breath” and Ceza gave a performance. Mercan Dede is a producer, DJ, and combines electronic and Turkish traditional music. Ceza is a famous Turkish rapper.

            In March 2007, Ilhan Ersahin, a Swedish-Turkish jazzsaxophonist gave a performance. He was influenced by the Middle-Eastern music as well as by Turkish music.

            In March 2007, there was a double-concert by Onur Ataman and his Ensemble feat. Jazztrompetist Eric Vloemans, and vocalist Sibel Köse with the Michiel Borstlap trio.

            In October 2008, Misirli Ahmet, percussion player, gave a performance.

            In February 2010, Onur Ataman and Tulug Tirpan gave a jazz performance.

            In February 2010 Fidan gave a jazz performance.

 

Podium Mozaiek

Both in 2008, 2009 and 2010 Podium Mozaiek organized “Türkü-bar-café Istanbul-stijl”, based on Türkü bars in Istanbul which came up immensely when people from all over Turkey moved to Istanbul. In a Türkü bar one can listen to folk music from all these regions, but in a modern, city-like way. Several musicians from Turkey were invited to these evenings, like Rojin, Musa Eroğlu, Erkan Oğur, and Ismail Demircioğlu.

In March 2010 Tombaz – Café Chantant brought Tango from Istanbul to Amsterdam.

 

Paradiso

In October 2008 songwriter Teoman, also described as the Turkish King of Rock, gave a performance (in collaboration with 34Live). His supporting act was the Turkish-Dutch band of Tolga Bleda Tuncer with Turkish cover songs.

In April 2010 the 4th edition of Pink Istanbul took place. This event shows the gay scene of Istanbul to a larger public, and thereby contributes to the visibility and emancipation of Turkish homosexuals in both Istanbul and Amsterdam. Melkweg

In February 2007, Athena, a Turkish ska-band who ended 4th on the 2004 Eurovision songfestival, performed.

           In March 2007, Portecho, Hayko Cepkin and DJ Style-ist brought their show to the public. It was a diverse night, with Portecho’s electro music, Hayko Cepkin’s alternative music and ending with the sound of DJ Style-ist.

            In February 2010 the Turkish rock band Duman performed.

 

Sugar Factory

In the first weekend of April 2010, the Sugar factory hosted the Istanbul weekend. House, techno, hiphop, and cross-over music (Rock meets Dance or Jazz meets HipHop), and many more types of music were played.

 

De Meervaart

In April, the final concert of the Turkey Now! 2010 festival was given by Sevval Sam. This singer brought poetical songs from Anatolia, Istanbul and the Black Sea Region to Amsterdam.

 

Westergasfabriek

In Feburary 2009, famous Turkpop singer Serdar Ortaç gave a concert.

 

Panama

In March 2009, the rock band 84 (Seksendört) gave a concert.

In May 2009, rapper Ceza gave a concert.

In November 2009 the rock band Yüksek Sadakat gave a concert.

In April 2010, maNga gave a concert. They did a European tour because of their participation in the Eurovision Songfestival 2010.
