Ankara
Ankara is the capital of Turkey and is the city where after Istanbul most art activities take place. Contemporary art exhibitions and activities are arranged through galleries and Universities like Hacettepe, Bilkent and METU. The opening of the CerModern art center by The Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB) in 2010 is a positive development and a much needed addition to the cultural infrastructure of Ankara, where such a modern and contemporary art center had been lacking until that moment. The center operates in many fields such as exhibitions, workshops and residency programs. It started in April 2010 with a contemporary art exhibition. Ankara was better known as a place for theatre, music and cinema activities rather than contemporary art activities, but the new CerModern may change this. The Ankara Biennial (also called the Asia-Europe Biennial) was first held in 1986 and has only been organized four times. The 5th of Ankara Biennale will take place between 1 April-25 and May 2012.
