Men and women are good dressers and take care of their appearance. Visits to a salon for hair, manicure, pedicure is a must, whatever the budget.
Blond in all its manifestations is a most frequently asked for colour at the hairdressers. In Turkey it seems “blonds have more fun”. There is a special tint of blond called “Nisantasi sari” or Nisantasi blond which typifies a Nisantasi fashion chick, a tanned, high heels spotting creature with a mane of blond highlighted hair toting a big Hermes, Prada or LV bag.
When it comes to evening and special occasion, long gowns, dazzling jewellery and all out glamour is “de rigeur”.
Turkish men are noteworthy for their sartorial style. Sartorialist needs to make his way to Istanbul. Formal or casual, men’s all time preferred accessory is facial hair – be it a three day stub, a moustache, or a beard. Androgynous dressing has not taken off in Turkey yet. Local men fashionista favour the “tough/man in control” look as well as sleek & chic styles of bespoke tailoring.
