Black Sea Region

The Black Sea Region has 18 provinces. Black Sea audiences are generally more nationalist, Islamic and/or conservative. Trabzon especially is very nationalist, but on the other hand it has a state theater that has progressive ideas. Sinop is a socialist city at the most Northern point of Turkey. Kars is a nice place to do projects, but due to a recent change of mayor it may be less open to culture than it used to be. There are amateur theater groups in Ordu, Bartın and Samsun which are semi professional.

-          The first Black Sea Festival took place in the summer of 2006. It aims to offer an alternative to festivals based on pop and consumer culture. Each festival takes 3 days and is generally held between 30 July and 1 August.
