Dutch music export has increased
During Eurosonic Noorderslag, Buma Cultuur announced the results of the Dutch music exports in 2011. For the seventh consecutive year, the export has increased. The export value of Dutch popular music grew in 2011 by 23% compared to 2010.
Popular genres
The Netherlands continues to do well in the popular genres: classical, metal-punk-rock and dance. Especially in dance is the Netherlands among the top with artists such as Tiësto, Armin van Buuren and Afrojack. Despite illness in 2010 and 2011, Andre Rieu is still highly popular in the classical genre. Within Temptation does well in the metal-punk-rock scene.
Germany's biggest source of income, USA emerging
In 2011, 728 Dutch acts performed abroad. The top three countries with most performances: 1. USA, 2. Germany, 3. Belgium, followed by Britain, Spain and Canada. In particular, the increase of performances in the United States has contributed significantly to the increase in export value. Germany continues to be the main source of income, followed by Belgium, United Kingdom and France.
