Since they started producing music in 2003 Kraak & Smaak have played six times in Turkey, four DJ sets and two live shows; all of them were in Istanbul. Apart from the 'Think Amsterdam' night in 2010 (in which the Dutch Consulate played a role) the shows were regular events, i.e. normal bookings and no part of a particular exchange program. Some of the gigs were set up by Abdullah Hendrik Geels van Audiomaze Productions based in Amsterdam, who is active in musical and cultural events in both Holland and Turkey. Others were set up by local Turkish organizers, i.e. club owners and programmers. It could however be that in some cases financial support from third parties (i.e. cultural organizations, consulate or a tourism agency) was secured to make things possible.
Turkey and Istanbul in particular have proven to be very interesting for Kraak & Smaak and they certainly hope to return there when they release their new album early 2011.
