ARIFA & VOICES FROM THE EAST - Amersfoort

Date(s)

Three female players of Eastern bowed instruments are the guests of the Amsterdam band Arifa, which successfully sheds new light on ancient music from the Middle East and the Balkan. Chinese musician Meng Xiaoxu plays erhu, her fellow guest player Niusha Barimani excels at kamanche, from her homeland Iran, and Vanya Valkova brings the gadulka from Bulgaria. The three will sing and play their instruments solo as well as in an ensemble format.

Arifa has regularly performed with renowned guests, including singers Lilian Vieira, Izaline Calister and Karsu Dönmez. Since its foundation in 2010 the group has received international praise for their Oriental music, which has been colored by Balkan music and jazz. The members of Arifa have Turkish, Greek, Rumanian, German and Dutch roots.

Arifa & Voices from the East will perform in Amersfoort at De Lieve Vrouw.
