Asia-Australia-Europe cultural mobility programme, Melbourne, Australia

The TransArtists Desk is taking part in the inaugural meetings of the Asia-Australia-Europe Creative Residency Network, coordinated by Res Artis and Asialink.
Date(s)

The Asia-Europe Creative Residency Network is a sub-network of Res Artis, established with the support of the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) to specifically promote more cultural exchange between Asia and Europe. The inaugural meetings of this network are focusing on the following topics: mapping, assessment, access and reciprocity.

On May 9th, the TransArtists desk will share its expertise on mapping residencies, as it is one of the key activities of the desk. The meeting aims to answer these questions: What is already known of mapping residencies, and by whom in Australia, Asia and Europe? What is the best way of mapping arts residencies and the value? This discussion stems from the Res Artis online visual mapping of arts residencies.
During the rest of the meeting, residencies experts will discuss Culturally Sensitive Assessment Protocols. Continuing the development of Res Artis’ assessment protocols for the field, they will consider what cultural factors in Asia, Europe and Australia to consider in evaluating the success of an arts residency program.

On May 12th, the second part of the Asia-Australia-Europe Creative Residency Network brings together Res Artis and On the Move who will conduct together a participatory meeting around the theme of Access and Reciprocity. The Asia Europe Foundation will join a discussion exploring what is known and what needs to be known in order to access mobility between Asia, Europe and Australia. How are artists moving between these regions? How can this be improved? Is the traffic only one-way? Where do the gaps lie in terms of access to residencies between the three regions – eg. Funding, two-way initiatives, lack of multilateral exchange?

In the afternoon of May 12th, as part of the IETM Asian Satellite Meeting Melbourne, a panel will be organised on the topic of Residencies, which aims to provide a survey of key international residency centres and insights in new program models for a new environment. The TransArtists desk will participate in this panel discussion, together with representatives from Res Artis, Asialink (Australia), China Residencies (China), Bamboo Curtain Studio (Taiwan), AIR-J (Japan), ACME Studios (UK) and Dance Box (Japan).
