Brazil: talent development and cultural participation

DutchCulture organizes a series of events in 2014 on different countries. On 6 June Brazil is centre stage.
Date(s)

In Brazil the development of talent and cultural participation have been prominently on the agenda for years.

Guest at this event is Aurea Leszczynski Vieira Gonçalves, International Relations advisor at SESC São Paulo. She will elaborate on the progressive and innovative art and cultural programmes that SESC develops for social transformation in Brazil.

SESC stands for Serviço Social do Comércio. This large-scale non-profit organization (founded by commercial enterprises) focuses on promoting the welfare of workers and their families, but it is open to all Brazilians. The organization is active all over the country and has its own cultural centres, theatres, sports facilities, libraries and training courses.

Jan Jaap Knol, director of the Dutch Cultural Participation Fund, will engage in conversation with Aurea Leszczynski Vieira Gonçalves and shed light on the Dutch practice of talent development and cultural participation.

Other guests at the event are Sara Cohen, head of Political, Press and Cultural Affairs at the Dutch Embassy in Brasília, and John van de Velde, employee Press and Cultural Affairs at the Dutch Consulate General in São Paulo. They will give an update on (opportunities for) cultural cooperation between Brazil and the Netherlands.

The event takes place at Felix &Foam, a new, temporary initiative of photography museum Foam in collaboration with pop-up store Frame and restaurant Foyer, in the imposing Felix Meritis building in Amsterdam. Until October 2014, Felix &Foam will be the place where art, culture and events come together.
