China also has a large quantity of restoration projects of exceptional size and has considerable expectations for tourism around historical cities. The assumptions are sometimes very different than the assumptions which are being used in the Netherlands. However, both perspectives have quite something to offer each other, because in the Netherlands the principles regarding restoration and the handling of built heritage are also shifting.

During the forum participants are introduced to Chinese examples, the Dutch practice and the major differences between the two countries. Topics include large restoration projects are covered, developments in policy, cultural tourism and the use of digital resources. Also the case of Chinese investors redesignating a Dutch municipal monument will be discussed.

The forum is an initiative of the Chinese embassy in The Hague and is organised in collaboration with DutchCulture, the National Office for Cultural Heritage, the LeidenAsiaCentre and the Institute for Heritage & Marketing (IVEM)
