Concert & Workshop - Yuri Honing Acoustic Quartet
Though definitely a jazzman, leading Dutch saxophonist Yuri Honing has spread his musical wings much farther afield. After working with Dutch improviser Misha Mengelberg, Lebanese singer Rima Khcheich and stints with such artists as Pat Metheny and Charlie Haden, Honing first made his own mark by recording an album of pop songs with his trio called Star Tracks that became a big hit.
The Yuri Honing Acoustic Quartet was formed in 2009. The term ‘acoustic’ should not be taken too literally: in this new group, soundscapes and electronic sound effects are and will remain part of the total aural landscape. He will however, be working with a piano player for the first time in nearly a decade.
ECM recording artist Wolfert Brederode joins Honing in the quartet’s quest to explore musical freedom, spiritualism and time. In 2012 Yuri Honing was awarded the prestigious VPRO Boy Edgar award for his entire oeuvre.
Yuri Honing Acoustic Quartet will be giving a concert on 6 March and a workshop on 5 March.
