How can you work as an artist in China ? How to establish a collaborative relationship with Chinese art institutions and initiatives? What do you need to know to extend your work in this specific context ? How to take part in, and what to expect from Chinese artist-in-residence programs? What are the specific features of residency programs in China?

DutchCulture is organising program to dive into these questions and exchange on the topic of creating in China, on the various aspects of working with Chinese partners, with a special focus on artist-in-residence programs and performing arts.

Program
Kira Simon-Kennedy, co-founder and director of China Residencies, a directory and regional network of artist residencies in China, will introduce the current state, trends and developments of Chinese residencies. Netherlands-based visual and performing artists will share their views and first-hand stories on working in a Chinese context. With, among others, Charlott Markus (2015 resident at the Institute for Provocation in Beijing) and Hakim, famous children theatre artist who just returned from his performance at the Silk Road International Arts Festival (Xi’an, China).

Chinese art practitioners Feng Boyi (independent curator) and Yang Shu (Rijksakademie alumnus and founder of residency program and art space Organhaus) will travel all the way from Beijing and Chongqing to contribute with their insights and experiences in Dutch-Chinese collaborations. Representatives from the Mondriaan fund and Dutch Performing Arts Fund will also join the dialogue to bring in the perspectives of international venture and policy.
