The Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam takes a fresh look at the word-famous Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher this fall. The exhibition ‘Escher Meets Islamic Art’ examines for the first time ever the way in which Escher was inspired by Islamic art. Prize exhibits from the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag are displayed alongside the finest examples of Escher’s drawings and graphic art. Among the highlights of the show are a 15th-century Ottoman dish and a magnificent ceiling decoration from Bursa. The Tropenmuseum, Holland’s largest ethnographic museum, is housed in one of Amsterdam’s most beautiful historic buildings.
