The Dutch photographer Arjen Zwart's work No one dies at a Gypsy wedding has been  selected for the photography festival FotoIstanbul.

Fotoistanbul is the photography festival in Istanbul, Turkey organized by Beşiktaş Municipality.

His work tell the story of his encounter with Roma in Istanbul. Their  lifestyle and their ability to survive in a rough environment like Istanbul attracted him to them. He started this project in 2001. During the following 13 years, he follows the members of one Romani family. He saw their children  grow up and witnessed important events and stages in their life’s.

The result is  a very personal photo project which not only shows the life’s of a Romani family but also reflects his relation with them. It’s impossible to tell the story in an summarized version. The selected photo’s are but more or less an impression.

Next year, the entire work will be published in book form.
